WHAT TO EXPECT

The Classic Family Adventure is a week-long, all-inclusive mountain holiday designed especially for families with children aged 4 to 13. It’s about reconnecting — with each other, with nature, and with a simpler, slower rhythm of life. It’s about ditching the screens, splashing in rivers, climbing trees, watching stars, and eating meals together around a big table. It’s about giving kids freedom to roam safely, to get muddy, to take the lead — and giving parents the space to relax and just be. It’s not a package tour. It’s not about ticking boxes. It’s a chance to slow down, tune in, and remember what really matters. Expect wonder, wildness, and a sense of belonging — in nature and in community. This is the holiday we dreamed of as parents… and now we get to share it with you.

WHO IS IT FOR

This trip is for families with children aged 4 to 13 who want more than just a holiday — they want connection, nature, and adventure. Whether your child is a fearless climber, a quiet nature lover, or a bit unsure about the outdoors, this trip gently draws out their confidence and curiosity. Activities are thoughtfully tailored so that little legs feel included and older siblings stay engaged. Single parents, blended families, same-sex parents, grandparents — all are welcome. If you value simplicity, community, and joyful, screen-free time in nature, you’ll fit right in. No outdoor experience is necessary — just a spirit of togetherness and a willingness to try something new.

ACCOMMODATION

Our home for the week is a beautiful, newly built Outdoor Centre in Samoëns — a peaceful alpine village surrounded by forests, waterfalls, and dramatic peaks. Each family has their own private en suite room, set up dorm-style with comfy beds and plenty of space. In the sleeping chalet, there’s a large communal kitchen and living area where families can gather to play, chat, or just relax after a big day out. The atmosphere is informal and friendly — like a big shared home in the mountains. The location is perfect for families: flat grounds for playing outside, close to rivers and trails, and just a short drive from local parks, swimming lakes, and two sweet village centres (Samoëns and Morillon). It’s a place where children can roam a little more freely and grown-ups can truly unwind.

THE FOOD

One of the unexpected highlights of the trip is the fabulous food served at the Outdoor Centre — cooked fresh each day by a talented local French chef. The Dining Chalet is a charming converted Savoyard barn, just a beautiful 5-minute walk from where we sleep. Surrounded by mountain views, it’s a special way to begin and end each day — sharing nourishing meals together in a warm, communal space. •Breakfast is served from 8am and always includes plenty of options to start your day right. •During breakfast, you’ll prepare a packed picnic lunch to take on the day’s adventure. •Dinner is served at 7.30pm and is a delicious, set-menu feast — classic, family-friendly French fare made with care and local ingredients. We don’t manage the menu ourselves, but the chef is experienced at cooking for allergies and dietary requirements. If you have specific needs (gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, etc.), just let us know in advance and they will be accommodated. While we can’t promise picky eaters will love every dish, most families find that trying new flavours and local dishes becomes part of the cultural adventure — and the food is generally excellent. If you’re vegan or have highly specific preferences, we recommend bringing a few familiar snacks from home — just in case.

TRAVEL: HOW TO GET TO SAMOENS

Getting Here We encourage guests to travel by train or car where possible — it’s more relaxing, more sustainable, and part of the adventure! By Train If you’re within range, the train is a fantastic option. We offer free local transfers for the first 8 guests who travel by train to Cluses (74). From the UK: Take an early Eurostar to Gare du Nord, Grab a quick Uber or taxi to Gare de Lyon, Catch the train to Cluses, arriving around 3pm. Many of our guests choose to spend Friday night in Paris and enjoy a more relaxed journey. Want to hire a car after your train journey? We recommend travelling to Bourg-en-Bresse (about a 2-hour drive to Samoëns) or Geneva, then hiring a car. Be sure to check car hire prices before booking — we recommend Booking.com. By Car Driving is a great option if you’re within range. Samoëns is just 1 hour east of Geneva. From Southern England: It’s roughly a 10-hour drive, Budget around £450 return for Eurotunnel, tolls, and fuel (the ferry is a little cheaper). Our favourite stopover: The lovely Val Moret Spa Motel — great rooms (around €100 for 3–4 people), superb spa, and delicious dinners. By Plane The nearest airport is Geneva, just a 1-hour drive from Samoëns. If flying, we strongly recommend renting a car from the Swiss side of Geneva Airport — it’s more straightforward and better equipped for mountain travel. Again, we recommend Booking.com for car hire deals. Need advice on planning your journey? Feel free to get in touch — we’re happy to help.

ITINERARY

Day 1 | ARRIVAL

Dinner

Guests arrive at the Outdoor Centre from 4pm onwards. If you would like to arrive the night before.. let us know! If you’re one of the first 5 guests travelling by train, I will meet you at Cluses Station around 3pm and bring you to Samoëns.

Once everyone has arrived and settled into their rooms, we’ll ease into the week with some icebreakers and gentle team-building — it’s a relaxed way to get to know the other families and start feeling at home.

If there’s time (and energy!) before dinner, you might even fancy an explore to a nearby stream.

In the evening, we’ll share our first meal together at the Outdoor Centre, ready to begin the adventure.

Day 2 | CANYON HIKE & LAKE

Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

We begin the day with a short drive up to Mathonex, a magical little alpine hamlet where our adventure begins.

From here, we set off on a secret canyon hike — a wild, off-the-beaten-track trail filled with natural bum slides, rock hopping, splashy stream crossings, and just the right amount of challenge and thrill. It’s a bonding experience like no other — kids and adults alike end up soaked, laughing, and full of stories.

The hike brings us gently back to civilisation, ending at the legendary Lac Bleu, a favourite local spot for summer fun.

Here, everyone can choose their own adventure:

  • Try the high ropes course among the trees

  • Test your skills on the ninja warrior obstacle course

  • Bounce, slide, and climb on the giant inflatable obstacle course on the lake

  • Or simply relax and swim in the crystal-clear, cold water of the mountain-fed lake

We picnic here and spend the rest of the afternoon playing, resting, and soaking it all in before heading back to the chalet.

It’s a day of wild fun, freedom, and connection — a true highlight of the week.

Day 3 | WHITE WATER RAFTING

Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Today, we set off on our first adventure — an exhilarating white water rafting trip through a spectacular alpine canyon. It’s the perfect way to dive straight into the wild beauty of the mountains, with plenty of laughter and teamwork along the way.

After rafting, we’ll enjoy a relaxed picnic in Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, a stunning natural amphitheatre of cliffs and waterfalls, recognised as one of the Wonders of the World.

For those feeling brave, there’s the chance to dip under a waterfall — refreshing, wild, and guaranteed to wake up your senses!

Day 4 | HUT TO HUT HIKE

Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Today we begin our 2-day hike into the mountains, leaving the valley behind and stepping into the vast, wild beauty of the high Alps.

We take our time — there’s no rush — allowing space to soak in the majesty of the landscape, breathe the crisp mountain air, and feel ourselves slow down, settle, and expand.

Along the way, we stop at a natural mountain spa — a hidden alpine pool where those who wish can take a bracing swim. The energy up here feels completely different to life down in the valley — spacious, raw, and quietly awe-inspiring.

Tonight, we stay in a rustic catered mountain refuge, sharing simple food, stories, and the magic of sleeping high in the mountains under a blanket of stars.

Day 5 | HUT RETURN

Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

After a cosy night in the mountain refuge, tired, happy, and perhaps smelling a little more “wild” than usual, we head to a stunning mountain lake before heading back down. There is a long and short option.

Day 6 | REST DAY

Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Today, we intentionally slow the pace, giving everyone space to recharge and choose their own adventure.

For those feeling energised, there’s the option to try parapenting — a thrilling tandem mountain flight.

This is your day — as wild or as restful as you choose.

Day 7 | ROCK CLIMBING

Breakfast | Picnic | Dinner

Today a legendary local climber will run a taster rock climbing session for us at a local crag. Feel free to show up for a couple of hours and test your body and mind to the limits.

For those with energy to spare, there’s plenty of adventure still to be had (not included in our costs)— you could head out on a mountain biking adventure.

If you’re ready to take it easy, you may want to head to Annecy, the Venice of the Alps or just chill by the warm Lac aux Dames.

In the evening, we all come back together for a final farewell — often ending the night with a fire on the river bank or disco! It’s the perfect way to wrap up an unforgettable week of adventure, connection, and shared memories.

Day 8 | FAREWELL

Breakfast

All good things must come to an end — for now! We need to leave the chalet by 10am, with hugs, goodbyes, and plenty of promises to see each other again. Many of our families return year after year — once you've experienced La Source, it tends to stay with you. Farewell until next time!
